One of my good friends was the director of the SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance Escape) program at Offutt AFB for several years. This is just one of the important issues in the Urban Survival Course offered fall.
Back in the 80s, there was an incident in which an F-16 pilots are required to make an emergency landing and landed on a deserted Runway in Alaska. He landed perfectly. The aircraft was undamaged, and he was fine. Unfortunately, he thought that his distress signal not go outside, and there, pulled out his Beretta, and shot himself. It is estimated that within 30 minutes of landing, he made this decision.
Help arrived within 2 hours after the first emergency call, that would be a long time have before the water / food / or any other stock is at an end. This is a common history. In wilderness situations, people often die after a single night of "exposure" at 50-60 degrees, even if they have the right clothes. Even soldiers who have observed, have too many films in Iraq and Afghanistan after receiving otherwise non-fatal injuries died.
On the other hand, is a much more amusing story of survival from a man who survived his plane crashed in a desert area and almost a week in extreme heat / cold with almost no supplies, crafts, food or water. What was the driving force for its survival? He was in the middle the divorce, and refused to die and let his wife get everything.
The point here is that the mind is a very powerful tool, and is either your worst enemy or your most valuable tool in a survival situation. There are two simple steps you can take to work those thoughts to himself.
1. Opt for a positive mental attitude.
2. Do you have something bigger than themselves to live.
Entire books have been about written this issue, and this was an area that I had my address when I started to plan through the process of setting my survival.
I was so on the bad political, economic, social and global events that happened that I had stopped practicing the discipline of thinking positively oriented independent on the situation.
In short, if you have not already, you need to make a discipline of positive thinking. This does not mean that you walk around with pink colored glasses and ignore the reality, but it means that you control your mind. You still need to see if there are problems, but focus See solutions and what they feel are successfully navigated the situation.
There is a famous saying: "Who can be a worry by hour Add to his life? "This is very true. In recent years, many people were concerned about a flu pandemic in one way or another. How does" worrying " also help you with? How does the worries hurt you?
Moreover, the negative effect of brain chemistry, you are violating ability to sleep, make depressing to be around, and the increase in blood pressure, it wastes time. A better approach is to only your mind with things that you control over the fear. Than For example, you have no control over whether a global flu pandemic.
You control how you have / will not respond if they become a reality and effect. Identify the risk to find out, your plan and move on. Are familiar with the debate on urban survival course, you'll do just that … create logical responses to potential threats, so you do not fritter away his life to thinking about things that may or may not happen. You see them all at once head-to write Your plan for dealing with them, and then you go on your life.
