On the inside of the Nashville songwriting community since 1991, I have a lot on how the business works, and learn what kind of songs are likely to To excite Publisher enough to give them a call songwriter, and a contract. It is not easy.

The basic steps are:

1. Their song is not too earn royalties sitting in a drawer. Many writers assume that they will "cash in" a day, but fear that their songs stolen from causes, which I "terminal procrastination", which has broken many a career. Professional writers can steal your idea but they will not steal songs and ideas anyway are not protected, then drag the song out of the hat on!

2. Polish it. This is also known as a byword, and it is the time you spend going through to review every line of text that you correct grammar, replace worn-out phrases with fresh ideas and refine the melody. If you only text you need a tune Write or written. Legitimate need to review professional song publishers are not lyrics, only complete songs.

3. Copyright protection exists in the preparation automatically in accordance with applicable copyright law, but by registering the Copyright Office, Library of Congress in Washington DC is recommended as step three. To this reach you must be a PA request form or you then load it from their website. Once shipped, it is sure to have made a demo.

4. You can either Their own demonstration recording or hire someone to do it. I would recommend going with a Nashville-based service. The world-class Nashville musicians and producers are experts in the production of the song sounds like a hit. My service is not the only, only the best:)

5. Once you have a professional demo will hear song publishers. Step five is the process of getting the songs to experts for evaluation, also known as "pitching", a song is known. There are numerous tip sheets Come on, visit this list, the major record label artists, screening is the songs, the exact nature of the songs, they are looking for and make the address. RowFax published here at Nashville's famous line is one of the better plates. You can also pitch (play) songs in person. Song publishers will sometimes accept appointments with unpublished Writers and publishers are generally not as specific in their needs, they just have great songs. Most non-hit songs are the first song of Publishers discovered. BMI also hears regularly assessed and BMI member's original unpublished material, creating appointments with publishers if they Sense, have a potential songwriter.

In general, song publishers want from two to four minutes long, with short introductions, they want a quick chorus in usually a verse and not two verses. You want to be songs about an aspect of love and relationships, and the more unique idea, the better. Another expression for the "Idea" is "the song concept." A unique or clever concept, usually embodies the title, gives you a huge advantage in getting a contract.

Do not assume that the only way to earn a living or substantial income from your songs described the traditional method: submit your songs to publishers, a major-label artist drawing them on and royalties flow from ASCAP or BMI.

The independent business model has been developed and it is always possible, a successful independent record company itself: Create function great music, sell merchandise (online sales and live performances) and collection of revenue from downloads, CD sales, live performance fees, as well as from ancillary products such as T-shirts and other items.

If you follow this path, I recommend live performance of your material part of the plan. You can write your own or with a local artist or a group with a higher aspirations for. Live performance can pay significant sums of money and build a fan base to buy the products that will visit your site, help you to a mailing list, etc.

So now you know the basic steps, it is time to hesitate a few … more! But only until tomorrow. Tomorrow morning I expect you to start the process to get your songs awarded in earnest!
